Indifference – Versatility – Mastery
Check its description in the Living Library or an inspiring 64 Doors website, where the information about each gate/key from the Human Design System and the Gene Keys are put together. Below you can read my own contemplations.
I have a very deep connection to this Gene Key. 16.2 is my Core Wound/Vocation, and 16.4 is my EQ. It feels like all my life’s process is about “talent” and this triggers me so much that it’s surprisingly difficult to write this post, even though I thought “I’m over it” 😉 I’ve just realized that today is September 15th, a symbolic date for my story of how having talents can bring a lot of suffering to one’s life. After realizing that – I’m not giving up on writing this post, and I hope to finish it in time, until Sept 15th ends. This will be fitting closure on the 10th anniversary of the event.
Indifference
Richard Rudd describes the Shadow frequency of the 16th Gene Key in the following way:
Indifference is an energy field created by all the human beings on this planet, who are not doing what they would really love to be doing. The only reason for this state is fear. To break out of the field of indifference is to make the courageous move deep into your own fears and overcome the lethargy that prevents you from making something truly beautiful of your life. (…) Only your courage and your enthusiasm have the power to break through the collective fears and indifference.
Richard Rudd, „The Gene Keys. Embracing your higher purpose”, London: Watkins 2015, p. 112.
I know this Shadow very well. For me, indifference is the fear of my own enthusiasm. When you know you want to do something, that you can do it well, but the fear of expressing it causes complete blockage, paralysis, inertia. The outside world judges us all the time, in every way and for everything. It is no one’s fault – the human mind is designed to compare data and evaluate, and humanity has created a world based on this inherent mental needs. Unfortunately, we have also learned to hurt each other with the way we formulate our judgements, underpinned by fear and a lack of empathy. The quickest way to kill enthusiasm (i.e. talent) is to subject it to judgement. And give it points or marks. In this light, our education system looks great, doesn’t it?
Every Shadow can appear both in our inner and outer worlds. In the latter case, you yourself are not indifferent to your talent, you are full of enthusiasm, light and bliss about it, you love to share it and enjoy it deeply, but then you encounter the indifference towards it from the outside, from other people. You are lost because you want to share the best of yourself, yet you are met with cold, piercing Indifference. The vicious circle. Next time, you will not share your talent. In fear of rejection, not being understood, receiving unempathetic criticism, bad judgement, indifference to something that is most important and beautiful to you, you hide your enthusiasm and refrain yourself from taking any action. Since no one appreciates or understands it anyway, it is better to keep quiet and do what everyone else does.
In this way, instead of “making something truly beautiful out of our lives”, we sit in offices from 8 to 5 and enjoy a two-week holiday yearly. Who cares, if we don’t enjoy what we do?

Versatility
I love this word. It’s very difficult to choose one equivalent in Polish, but in English – Versatility simply feels like me, my essence. Yet, the conditioning in my mind says: If you’re good at everything, you’re good at nothing [it’s actually a Polish proverb], You have to choose a specialisation, You have to become an expert in one field, You have to choose a job and stay in it for 50 years until you retire. Wonderful. And then we wonder why people don’t want to admit their enthusiasm and ability to do MANY different things.
The Gift of being versatile is the ability to pick up any skill that is needed and use it for a single aim – for the betterment of humanity and the service to the whole. Versatility is driven by the dynamic energy of enthusiasm – the feeling that you are doing something thoroughly enjoyable, which also happens to improve people’s lives and serve the whole. (…) The great joy of versatility is to spread your wings as widely as possible.
Richard Rudd, „The Gene Keys. Embracing your higher purpose”, London: Watkins 2015, pp. 114-115.
The key to immersing ourselves in our natural versatility is to learn and accept the fact that we do not have to identify with just one talent, ability or skill – whether innate or acquired. We have the right to change our interests and learn new things throughout our lives. We can change from day to day. We do not have to stay the same and do the same thing just because that is what society expects of us.
We need a new paradigm – one that is versatile, creative, holistic, multidimensional and relaxed. At the moment, everything seems to me too constricted, rigid, stressed and limited. We are going through the Great Change. All is well. Time for versatility instead of expertise is coming 😉

Mastery
I opened this blog a month or two before the Gene Keys came into my life. I named the website singyoursong for many reasons. I was deeply moved when I first saw this short description of The Siddhi of Mastery in my interactive hologenetic profile generated on the genekeys.com. Look:
Mastery is the field of genius miraculously accessible to all beings, beyond the normal cultivation of skills or talents. It is the revelation that nothing is impossible. Mastery occurs when the individual dissolves personal identity and agendas and allows the divine to fully sing its song.
I am deeply grateful for each and every tiny synchronicity showing up in this process of realization 🙂
