It feels like my whole life (including my current work with You!) is about the Throat*. And so it is time to share some information about the Throat Center according to Human Design, along with some of my own contemplations, insights and doubts. I am planning several posts on this topic.
*I could also say that it is all about the “throat chakra”, but I must admit here, that I do not resonate with the seven chakra system, as it is generally known and talked about in the social media. I feel that linguistically, information about ‘chakras’ is burdened with some outdated knowledge and energies that are becoming less and less relevant at a time of Great Change, when our individual and collective energy systems are undergoing such dynamic changes. Though, for the record, you will find a summary of traditional information about the ‘throat chakra’ at the end of this post.
Throat Center in Human Design System
Firstly, according to Human Design we have nine, and not seven, energy centers. One of the revelations received by Ra Uru Hu in his mystical encounter was that this shift from the seven-centered- to the nine-centered being happened for humans at the end of the 18th century.
The Throat is the most complex of the nine centers, containing as many as 11 Gates:

Hearing “your own voice” in this cluster of energy can be difficult. I will share more on this detail-filled topic in the next post. Prepare your charts (Bodygraphs) so that you can check which voice belongs to you when Your True Self is speaking 😉 Now, some basic information about the Throat.
The Throat Center is the central point of our energetic system, a hub to which energy flows from all other centres, seeking a way to express itself in each present moment. Depending on your individual configuration**, you may find it easier to express your thoughts and concepts (energy flowing “from above”, i.e. from the defined Head or Ajna Centers) or your intuition, inspiration, will, emotional or physical needs (energy flowing from all six centers that you see below the Throat).
**We generally believe that everything we say comes from our head, from our mind. However, according to Human Design, what we express through our words and actions originates in the area of our body/energy system that is directly connected to the Throat Center (by definition).
Simply put, whatever happens in your system seeks an outlet through action, expression, creativity, communication, manifestation through the Throat Center. When you begin working with your natural mode of expression and creativity, it is worth checking whether your Throat is defined, undefined or completely open.
Defined Throat
If the Throat Center is coloured on your chart – you have this centre defined, which means that you have constant access to its energy. Theoretically***, communication comes easily to you, although your form of expression is somewhat limited, fixed, depending on which energy channel is the source of your definition (more on this in the next post). Statistically, 70% of humanity has a defined Throat. Below you can see my configuration:
*** It looks great on paper, but we must take into account that we are usually conditioned to suppress our free, natural expression via the education process. Therefore, even people with a defined Throat may have problems with expressing creativity, manifesting, and taking action: the energy of the Throat is constant and strong, but you block it or direct it “where it shouldn’t go”. Then, the power of your expression and manifestation works against you and can even harm your physical body, in this case – the thyroid and parathyroid glands. Working with Yous on healing of such blockages is my deepest calling – we are working on that during my sessions of The Song of Your Soul (Pieśń Duszy).
By the way, you have just learned that every energy centre and every Gate in Human Design (as well as in Gene Keys) is connected to a specific aspect of our biology. In case of the Throat, it is broadly understood metabolism, the thyroid and parathyroid glands.
Undefined Throat
If the Throat Center is white on your chart, it means that it is undefined. You do not have consistent access to its energy. The question worth asking yourself with this configuration, as a starting point for contemplating your inner balance in terms of expression, manifestation and taking action, is: Am I trying to get attention?
An undefined Throat feels pressure (coming from outside, from people with a defined Throat) to constantly talk, to draw attention to itself in a group, even though its natural state is silence and responding to its surroundings, not forcing or initiating anything. The lack of constant access to the energy of expression and manifestation causes nervousness in the body, which can manifest itself in excessive talking without reason, order or structure. A healthy, open and undefined Throat do not force anything.
When you live in your truth, with an open and undefined Throat you have access to many diverse forms of expression (unlike a defined Throat, which is limited to its definition). You are free to choose forms of self-expression depending on the situation and the environment you find yourself in at any given moment.
Your creativity and initiative work best when you start your action in response to the needs of your environment. You may be surprised at the wisdom that flows from your mouth in response to external encouragement to act or speak. On the other hand, when you do things by forcing and initiating without outer stimuli, you can experience sore throat, hoarseness, and even develop regular problems with your tonsils, larynx, vocal chords, thyroid and parathyroid glands, and metabolism.
